Joseph Liu, MD

Orthopaedic Surgeon

Joseph Liu, M.D. strives to provide high quality, compassionate, and patient-centered care.  He strongly believes that patients should participate fully in their own care and wants to arm patients with the proper tools and education to make informed decisions.  Dr. Liu believes that a well-informed patient is more engaged and empowered throughout the treatment course, which will result in an improved outcome.  Most importantly, he treats people, not diagnoses.  His firm belief is that each treatment should be tailored to fit each patient’s circumstances and goals.  While Dr. Liu is a surgeon by training, he is committed to helping patients restore pain-free function, in the least invasive way possible.

Dr. Liu completed medical school at the University of California, San Francisco, and then went on to complete an orthopedic surgery residency at the Hospital for Special Surgery, the #1 Orthopaedic Hospital in the nation.  He subsequently completed a separate Sports Medicine and Shoulder fellowship at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush, where he also served as an assistant team physician for the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bulls.  He has also previously served as a team physician for the USC Trojans and the Los Angeles Kings.  He has written over 150 peer-reviewed manuscripts, aiming to provide the latest, most evidence-based interventions to his patients.
